FUND RAISING

After Ian’s death on April 7th 2013, the family and RMIT Applied Physics began to liase with the RMIT Foundation to establish the Ian Snook Physics Prize.

RMIT University donated $22,500. A special thanks to Professor Margaret Gardner AO, Vice-Chancellor and President, and to Professor Peter Coloe, Pro Vice-Chancellor Science, Engineering and Health, and Vice-President.

Colleagues and friends have also generously donated.

The 2014 Inaugural prize of $2,500 was provided by the Applied Science School. This has been a tremendous help in allowing the Trust fund to accrue interest before it was drawn upon in 2015.

Steve Eichblatt:

In 2015, Steve Eichblatt made a donation of $US 10,000. He has subsequently donated a further $US 10,000 each year from 2016-2020.

Steve’s generosity has meant that the prize has doubled in value since its inception and will guarantee that it  will continue in perpertuity. The family are extremely grateful.

Steve is an American, who completed his undergraduate degree at RMIT and who recognises the tremendous role RMIT played in his development as a Physics researcher. In particular, he credited Ian with inspiring his love of Physics and going on to pursue a career in Physics research.

Steve's Story warrants its own page. See next page.

It hopefully will be an inspiration to aspiring Physicists.
